R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Deanie Parrish and Nancy Parrish have been inducted |
|
|
into the Pioneer Hall of Fame by Women in Aviation, International, |
|
|
and they are indeed deserving of recognition for their achievement; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Pioneer Hall of Fame was established by Women in |
|
|
Aviation, International in 1992 to honor women who have made |
|
|
significant contributions in the field of aviation as |
|
|
record-setters or innovators, or by helping female aviators to be |
|
|
successful; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Deanie Parrish and her daughter, Nancy, were |
|
|
recognized for their work with Wings Across America, a nonprofit |
|
|
organization that they founded to gather and share historical |
|
|
information about Women Airforce Service Pilots who served during |
|
|
World War II; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1944, Deanie Parrish joined the WASP program and |
|
|
trained for seven months at Avenger Field in Sweetwater; she was |
|
|
later stationed in Mississippi and Florida, where she served as a |
|
|
test pilot and assisted with target practice exercises; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Nancy Parrish is a former news producer, and she |
|
|
chronicled her mother's experiences, as well as those of more than |
|
|
100 other WASPs, to create a video history website; the Parrishes |
|
|
also established a WASP museum in Sweetwater and two traveling |
|
|
exhibits to educate and inspire citizens across the country; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through their dedicated efforts to preserve and |
|
|
celebrate the fascinating history of Women Airforce Service Pilots, |
|
|
Deanie Parrish and Nancy Parrish have contributed immeasurably to |
|
|
protecting an important part of our heritage, and they may reflect |
|
|
with pride on all that they have accomplished; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Deanie Parrish and Nancy Parrish on |
|
|
their induction into the Pioneer Hall of Fame by Women in Aviation, |
|
|
International and extend to them sincere best wishes for the |
|
|
future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Deanie Parrish and Nancy Parrish as an expression of |
|
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
