R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the
  passing of Douglas Gaylon White of Harleton on January 21, 2014, at
  the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Gaylon White was born on June 30, 1928, to Douglas
  and Vivian Jones White, and grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana;
  possessing a keen intellect as well as a gift for music, he served
  as principal oboist of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra while
  attending Centenary College of Louisiana, where he was also a
  member of the Kappa Alpha Order; and
         WHEREAS, Following his graduation, Mr. White met Beatrice
  Coleman, and the couple were joined in matrimony on August 27, 1950;
  they shared more than six decades of marriage together, and over the
  years, they were blessed with a treasured family that included
  three children, David White and his wife, Sarah, Susan White, and
  Paul White and his wife, Kristie, as well as six grandchildren,
  Laura, Ray, Henry, Miranda, Talin, and Travis; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. White answered his nation's call to duty by
  serving as an officer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and
  after returning to civilian life, he began a notable 38-year career
  at the Texas Eastern Corporation in Houston; widely admired for his
  expertise in many areas of the petroleum industry, from the
  pipelining of coal slurry to the development of shale oil, he
  further distinguished himself as an advisor in development of the
  U.S. Department of Energy and as a member of the American Petroleum
  Institute and the Association of Petroleum Economists; and
         WHEREAS, In retirement, Mr. White moved with his wife to
  Harleton, where he gave generously of his time and talents in behalf
  of the community; he served as president of the Harleton Chamber of
  Commerce, as a member of the board of directors of the Harrison
  County Historical Museum, and as the county representative of the
  North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority; moreover, he was
  active in the local Republican Party and held the positions of
  precinct chair and board member of the Emergency Service District
  No. 8 in Harleton; he was also a member of the Rotary Club of
  Marshall and a valued congregant of First United Methodist Church
  of Marshall; and
         WHEREAS, In his leisure hours, Mr. White delighted in
  spending time with his loved ones, sharing good meals, and
  traveling; he also enjoyed caring for his two donkeys, Doc and
  Domino, and his Black Angus cattle; and
         WHEREAS, Gaylon White built a life that was rich in family,
  friends, and meaningful accomplishments, and he will forever be fondly
  remembered by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Douglas Gaylon White
  and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
  of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gaylon
  White.
