R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Henry Boehm of Vanguard College Preparatory School |
|
in Waco has deservedly been named a Forty Acres Scholar by The |
|
University of Texas Alumni Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Initiated in 2011 by the Texas Exes, the Forty Acres |
|
Scholar Program recognizes outstanding high school students from |
|
the Lone Star State and beyond who excel academically, who |
|
distinguish themselves through their extracurricular activities |
|
and community service, and who possess the social skills necessary |
|
to interact with adults as well as their peers; out of approximately |
|
3,000 applicants from across the country, only 19 were named 2015 |
|
Forty Acres Scholars; each recipient of the honor receives a |
|
$130,000 scholarship to cover school expenses throughout their time |
|
at UT-Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Boehm has compiled an impressive academic |
|
record during his high school career, excelling in each of his |
|
Advanced Placement courses and scoring well on several |
|
college-entry exams; he is president of the Class of 2015 at |
|
Vanguard, where he also serves as editor-in-chief of the school |
|
newspaper and participates as a member of the school's mock trial |
|
team; he is a gifted student-athlete as well, leading the Vanguard |
|
Vikings boys' soccer squad as team captain; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his academic endeavors, Mr. Boehm has |
|
gained critical life skills as a member of his local Boy Scouts of |
|
America troop, and he attained the prestigious Eagle Scout rank at |
|
the age of 14; and |
|
WHEREAS, At UT-Austin, Mr. Boehm plans to study liberal arts |
|
and ultimately major in business; and |
|
WHEREAS, This noteworthy young Texan has worked toward his |
|
goals with great diligence and determination, and he may indeed |
|
look forward to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Henry Boehm on being named a Forty |
|
Acres Scholar by The University of Texas Alumni Association and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Boehm as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
