R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Rick Diaz retired as anchor of KRGV-TV news in the
  Rio Grande Valley on May 22, 2015, drawing to a close an outstanding
  career in television journalism that has spanned half a century;
  and
         WHEREAS, The son of migrant workers, Mr. Diaz was a member of
  the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School Border Bandits, the first Rio
  Grande Valley football team to make the state playoffs, during the
  1962-63 season; while he was attending Pan American University, he
  joined the staff of KRGV-TV in Weslaco as a night photographer, and
  following his graduation from college, he quickly worked his way up
  through the ranks to become a reporter, a weekend news anchor, the
  six o'clock news anchor, and finally the station's news director in
  1976; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Diaz first retired in 1998, but he returned to
  the station as a news anchor in 2000; throughout his career, he has
  been an inspiration and a mentor to other journalists, counseling
  countless young people over the years, including the station's
  current news director, whom Mr. Diaz hired in 1981; his extensive
  community service has been honored on three occasions with
  invitations to the White House, twice by President Ronald Reagan
  and again by President Bill Clinton; and
         WHEREAS, Rick Diaz may indeed reflect with pride on his
  lifelong commitment to serving the Rio Grande Valley, and
  generations of grateful viewers will long remember his signature
  signoff, "Good night y que te pasa muy buenas noches"; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Rick Diaz for his leadership and
  achievements with KRGV-TV news and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Diaz as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
