R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The city of El Paso lost an admired business and
  civic leader with the passing of Richard Poe on May 16, 2015, at the
  age of 81; and
         WHEREAS, Born in El Paso on April 7, 1934, Dick Poe earned his
  bachelor's degree in business administration at The University of
  Texas--El Paso and subsequently joined his family's automotive
  business; he expanded its dealerships to include Dick Poe
  Chrysler-Jeep, Dick Poe Dodge-Ram, and Dick Poe Toyota-Scion, and
  today, the company employs more than 400 people; over the years,
  Mr. Poe was a mentor to many of his staff members, even after they
  went on to other careers, and he looked out for the interests of
  other dealers; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan also owned Evergreen Cemeteries
  and several other properties, and he served on the boards of State
  National Bank, Coronado Bank, Sandia Savings and Loan, and other
  businesses; he remained involved in day-to-day operations of his
  dealerships until shortly before his death; a quiet philanthropist,
  he generously supported his alma mater and its athletics
  department, and he contributed to Special Olympics, United Cerebral
  Palsy, and countless other charities while shying away from
  recognition; he was a member of numerous civic organizations, among
  them the Masonic Lodge, El Maida Shrine, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon;
  and
         WHEREAS, A man of great warmth and kindness, Dick Poe will be
  deeply missed by those who were privileged to share in the richness
  of his life, but his contributions to the community will continue to
  resonate in the years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dick Poe and extend
  sincere condolences to his family: to his sons, Richard C. Poe II
  and Troy Stephen Poe; to his sister, Claudia Barry; to his nieces
  and nephews, Alton B. Poe IV, Richard Hopper, Faith Poe, Charity
  Poe-Rakes, and Kellie Monticelli; and to his other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dick Poe.
