R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Virginia Vogel Smith of Kingwood passed away on May
  11, 2015, at the age of 96, leaving her family and friends to
  treasure the wealth of joyful memories they shared with her; and
         WHEREAS, Born on February 14, 1919, in Climax Springs,
  Missouri, the former Virginia Vogel was the daughter of Peter and
  Lena Vogel; she graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1939 and
  embarked on a career as an educator that would span four decades and
  encompass grades from kindergarten to high school; a dynamic and
  beloved teacher, she maintained high expectations for her students
  and found fulfillment in helping them succeed; and
         WHEREAS, In 1942, she married Glen Thomas Smith, with whom
  she shared a long and rewarding union, until his death in 1983; she
  was the proud mother of two sons, Mark and Reed, and with the
  passing years, she welcomed into her family five grandchildren and
  six great-grandchildren; alongside her husband, she was a valued
  member of First Presbyterian Church; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to her life as a teacher, wife, and
  mother, Mrs. Smith was an active civic leader during the more than
  45 years she resided in Galveston; drawing on her passion for
  investing, she became the founder of two local investment clubs,
  and she served on the boards of the Galveston Opera House and the
  Rosenberg Library; she was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma
  Society, an organization dedicated to excellence in education and
  the professional and personal growth of women educators; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith moved to Kingwood in 2006 to be near her
  family, and in her free time, she enjoyed using her talent for
  needlework to make beautiful gifts for her loved ones; fondly known
  by the nickname "Tiny," she cultivated many close friendships
  throughout her life, and her encouraging words touched the hearts
  of countless people; and
         WHEREAS, Although she will be deeply missed, Virginia Smith
  left an indelible impression on all those who were privileged to
  know her, and she will forever be remembered with heartfelt
  admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Virginia Vogel Smith
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  sons, Mark and Reed Smith; to her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Smith;
  to her brother, Philip; and to her other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Virginia
  Vogel Smith.
