R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Jacky Mayfield of Mount Vernon received |
|
|
well-deserved recognition when he was inducted into the East Texas |
|
|
Coaches Association Hall of Honor at a banquet held in Texarkana on |
|
|
February 21, 2015; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Coach Mayfield enjoyed an exemplary 30-plus year |
|
|
career as a football coach in the State of Texas, serving as head |
|
|
coach at Pewitt High School in the early 1980s and as an assistant |
|
|
coach at Lufkin, Brazoswood, Daingerfield, Henderson, and Mount |
|
|
Vernon High Schools; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This skilled mentor spent 17 seasons on the |
|
|
sidelines at Daingerfield, where he held the title of defensive |
|
|
coordinator under head coach Dennis Alexander; Coach Mayfield was |
|
|
the architect of several dominant defensive units for the Tigers, |
|
|
and his efforts helped the school capture state championships in |
|
|
1983 and 1985; moreover, the 1983 Daingerfield defense |
|
|
distinguished itself as one of the finest in the country, with 14 |
|
|
shutouts in 16 games, including 13 in a row to set a new national |
|
|
record; in fact, the offense allowed the only points scored against |
|
|
the team, a safety and a touchdown on an interception return, as the |
|
|
Tigers completed the first 16-0 season in Texas high school |
|
|
football history; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With his exceptional abilities to teach and |
|
|
motivate, Jacky Mayfield has made a positive difference in the |
|
|
lives of countless young athletes, and in so doing, he has earned a |
|
|
place among the legendary coaches of the East Texas area; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jacky Mayfield on his induction |
|
|
into the East Texas Coaches Association Hall of Honor as a member of |
|
|
the Class of 2015 and commend him on his many achievements; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Coach Mayfield as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
