R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Darlene Miller of Corpus Christi graduated from
  Hardin-Simmons University as a member of the Class of 2015 at the
  age of 74, and her accomplishment is a source of inspiration to all;
  and
         WHEREAS, A 1958 graduate of Ray High School, Ms. Miller
  previously attended college classes between 1963 and 1980, while
  working full-time as a nurse and raising three children; following
  the death of her husband in 2009, she felt called to return to
  school to prepare for the ministry, and she enrolled in the South
  Texas School of Christian Studies, which partners with
  Hardin-Simmons University to offer bachelor's degrees; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Miller took courses in such subjects as the Old
  and New Testaments and other world faiths for her major in ministry
  and minor in religion; in addition, she completed some required
  classes at Del Mar College and at Texas A&M University--Corpus
  Christi, where she also worked part-time greeting visitors;
  although she learned to use a computer in order to keep up with
  assignments, in the classroom she practiced the vanishing art of
  taking notes by hand; her study habits proved highly effective, as
  she attained a 4.0 grade point average; and
         WHEREAS, Through her diligence, perseverance, and commitment
  to excellence, Ms. Miller has earned the respect and admiration of
  her professors and fellow students, and it is indeed a pleasure to
  honor her as she prepares to embark on an exciting new chapter in
  her life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Darlene Miller on her graduation
  from Hardin-Simmons University and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Miller as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
