R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of Fort Worth lost an admired entrepreneur |
|
with the passing of Victor D. Puente Sr. on May 20, 2015, at the age |
|
of 88; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Breckenridge on November 2, 1926, Victor |
|
Puente left high school in the 10th grade and moved to Fort Worth to |
|
make his way in the world; he married his soul mate, the former |
|
Virginia Dominguez, and they became the proud parents of three |
|
children, Buddy, Vince, and Gina; Mr. Puente started a typewriter |
|
repair company, Southwest Office Systems, and in 1972, his sons |
|
joined the firm, which grew to become one of the largest |
|
minority-owned, independent office equipment dealers in the |
|
Southwest; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1989, Mr. Puente established Puente Concessions, |
|
which operated three newsstand and gift shops at the Dallas-Fort |
|
Worth International Airport; the following year, his daughter |
|
joined the firm, and together, they expanded from retail into food |
|
and beverage, currency, and wineries; his companies today employ |
|
more than 250 people; a true renaissance man, Mr. Puente enjoyed |
|
playing the piano, boxing, working out, gardening, reading about |
|
Mexican history, and caring for his adored boxer dogs; above all, he |
|
cherished time spent with his loved ones; and |
|
WHEREAS, Victor Puente possessed a generosity of spirit that |
|
expressed itself in myriad ways, and although he is deeply missed, |
|
memories of his devotion to his family and his faith remain to |
|
comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Victor D. Puente Sr. |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
children, Buddy, Vince, and Gina Puente; to his daughters-in-law, |
|
Alice and Mona; to his grandchildren, Victor, Vince, Lindsay, |
|
Haley, Victoria, and Andrea; to his great-granddaughter, Launa; to |
|
his cousin, Nora Cruz; and to his other relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Victor D. |
