R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Admired attorney and civic leader Robert Wayne |
|
Strauser of Austin passed away on May 21, 2015, at the age of 71, |
|
only 12 days before the end of his 19th legislative regular session |
|
at the Texas Capitol; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Christopher "Pete" Strauser and Opal Orr |
|
Strauser, Bob Strauser was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on August |
|
8, 1943; he graduated from Davidson College and The University of |
|
Texas School of Law, and in 1968, he was hired by the Texas |
|
Legislative Council as a drafting attorney; subsequently, he served |
|
as general counsel to the House Judiciary Committee, and in 1974, he |
|
was recruited to form the Texas Association of Taxpayers; after 10 |
|
years, he joined the firm of Baker Botts L.L.P., and although he |
|
retired in 2008, he continued to represent clients before the |
|
legislature until a week before his death; he was very proud to have |
|
served for many years in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the |
|
United States Navy Reserve, attaining the rank of captain; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Strauser shared a fulfilling relationship with |
|
his wife, Terri Seales, and he found great joy in raising his |
|
children, Ben and Ann; he coached their soccer teams, and he was |
|
happy to include their friends in family activities, achieving |
|
recognition as "the cool dad"; in addition, he served on the board |
|
of the Big Brothers Little League teams of East Austin; he was a |
|
tireless supporter of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and a longtime |
|
member of its board and executive committee, and he also served on |
|
the McDonald Observatory Board of Visitors; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of integrity and unfailing courtesy, Bob |
|
Strauser will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to |
|
know him, and his family and friends will forever remember the way |
|
he touched their lives with his wisdom, generosity, and wonderful |
|
sense of humor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Wayne Strauser |
|
and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Terri Seales; to his children, Ben Strauser and Ann Strauser |
|
Palmer and her husband, Stephen; to his grandsons, Benjamin and |
|
Henry Palmer; to his sister, June Aaron; to his mother-in-law, |
|
Arlene Seales; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert |
|
Wayne "Bob" Strauser. |
