R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Television news anchor Rick Diaz retired from
  KRGV-TV Channel 5 in the Rio Grande Valley on May 22, 2015, after
  nearly 50 years in broadcast journalism; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Diaz became the news director at KRGV in 1976;
  he had formerly served as a photographer, a reporter, and an anchor;
  throughout his exemplary career, he has carried the people of the
  Valley in his heart, mind, and soul, and he has guided the station
  with the highest level of integrity; and
         WHEREAS, A truly distinguished leader in his field, Mr. Diaz
  was invited to the White House on several occasions and was twice
  recognized by President Ronald Reagan for the beneficial work the
  television station did in the community; his love for family and for
  the Rio Grande Valley kept him in his home state even when he had
  offers to move to larger markets; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Diaz announced his retirement as news director
  in 1998, but he was drawn back to the station he loved two years
  later to serve again as a news anchor; in this role, he was also a
  mentor and counselor to many young people in the industry; and
         WHEREAS, This beloved member of the community has maintained
  a standard of excellence in broadcast journalism that serves as an
  example to others, and his presence at KRGV will be greatly missed
  by his colleagues and by residents across the Valley; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Rick Diaz for his exceptional
  contributions to KRGV-TV Channel 5 and to the people of the Rio
  Grande Valley and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Diaz as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
