R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, The H. Yturria Land and Cattle Co. received a Lone |
|
|
Star Land Steward Award from the Texas Parks and Wildlife |
|
|
Department at a ceremony held in Austin on May 6, 2015; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1996 by the TPWD Private Lands |
|
|
Advisory Committee, the Lone Star Land Steward Award recognizes |
|
|
private landowners who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment |
|
|
to habitat management and wildlife conservation; this prestigious |
|
|
accolade is presented annually to seven recipients, each from a |
|
|
different ecological region in Texas, and the H. Yturria Land and |
|
|
Cattle Co. earned the award for the South Texas Plains area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The 24,000-acre H. Yturria Land and Cattle Co. ranch |
|
|
was established by Francisco Yturria in the 1800s and is situated in |
|
|
Kenedy, Willacy, and Hidalgo Counties; today, the property is owned |
|
|
and operated by the members of the Butler family, who are |
|
|
descendants of Francisco Yturria, and the ranch is managed by Rudy |
|
|
Bazan; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to preserving their property as a |
|
|
working ranch, the Butlers have worked tirelessly to develop native |
|
|
habitats and provide water and other resources for all game and |
|
|
nongame species in the area; as a part of their efforts, they have |
|
|
successfully restored populations of Rio Grande wild turkeys |
|
|
through trapping and restocking techniques, and their success in |
|
|
this initiative has enabled them to relocate some of the birds to |
|
|
nearby properties; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The natural beauty and diverse ecology of the South |
|
|
Texas Plains depend on the careful stewardship of its landowners, |
|
|
and the Butler family and their dedicated staff at the H. Yturria |
|
|
Land and Cattle Co. are helping to conserve precious resources for |
|
|
future generations; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the H. Yturria Land and Cattle Co. |
|
|
for receiving the Lone Star Land Steward Award and extend to the |
|
|
Butler family and their staff sincere best wishes for continued |
|
|
success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the H. Yturria Land and Cattle Co. as an expression of |
|
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
