R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, James Ben Magel retired from the Pleasanton City
  Council in May 2014, after nearly two decades of exemplary service;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Magel was first elected to represent District 1
  in 1996, and over the course of an outstanding 18-year tenure, he
  displayed a determined commitment to maintaining and improving the
  city's infrastructure; he was instrumental in securing the
  construction of a public works facility, a new police department
  building, and a new civic center and library, as well as an
  expansion of the Pleasanton City Hall, the creation of a regional
  wastewater collection line, and the development of other
  infrastructure projects; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his vital work on the city council,
  Mr. Magel has given generously of his time and talents to a number
  of community organizations; most recently, he has served as a
  member of the church council at St. John Lutheran Church in
  Jourdanton and as president of the Pleasanton Ex-Students
  Association; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan graduated from Pleasanton High
  School in 1966, and he later earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy
  from The University of Texas at Austin; he returned to his hometown
  and began working at Henry's Pharmacy, and today, he is the owner
  and operator of Rexco Pharmacy; and
         WHEREAS, Jimmy Magel is married to the former Bernice Tieken,
  with whom he has shared a rewarding union of four and a half
  decades; a devoted father, he takes tremendous pride in his two
  children, and he has known the joy of welcoming a grandchild into
  his treasured family; and
         WHEREAS, Pleasanton is fortunate to have among its residents
  such engaged citizens as Jimmy Magel, whose dedication and
  achievements have helped to make his community a better place in
  which to live, and it is indeed appropriate that he be recognized
  for his distinguished civic leadership; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend James Ben Magel for his service on the
  Pleasanton City Council and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Magel as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
