R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The death of Paul E. Glaske of Flint on January 30, |
|
2015, at the age of 81, brought a great loss to his family, his |
|
friends, and the LeTourneau University community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, on August 31, 1933, |
|
Paul Glaske earned his bachelor's degree at Bob Jones University; |
|
after completing his master's degree in business at Pepperdine |
|
University, he began his career with Standard Oil; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Glaske joined LeTourneau University as business |
|
manager in 1963, and he was later appointed vice president for |
|
business affairs; in 1968, he was named vice president of |
|
administration of R. G. LeTourneau Incorporated, and three years |
|
later, he became president of the Longview division of Marathon |
|
LeTourneau Company; he was CEO and chair of the Blue Bird |
|
Corporation of Fort Valley, Georgia, from 1986 until his retirement |
|
in 1999; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Glaske continued to give |
|
generously of his time and expertise for the benefit of LeTourneau |
|
University; he began serving on its board of trustees in 1975, and |
|
he was chair from 1988 to 1999; subsequently, he served as |
|
treasurer, as chair of the LETU Presidential Search Committee, and |
|
as a member of the Trustee Committee for the Strategic Plan; in |
|
2011, he was executive chair of the university's $27.5 million "For |
|
Such A Time As This" fund-raising campaign; and |
|
WHEREAS, The university named the Paul E. Glaske Center for |
|
Engineering, Science, and Technology in his honor, and it further |
|
recognized his tremendous contributions with an honorary Doctor of |
|
Laws degree and with the 2007 Henry O. Gossett Jr. Community Partner |
|
Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to civic life, Mr. Glaske also |
|
served as chair of the Good Shepherd Medical Center Board, as |
|
president of the Longview Chamber of Commerce, and as chair of the |
|
Texas Association of Business; he was a member of the board of the |
|
Texas Association of Taxpayers and the Governor's State Job |
|
Training Coordinating Council, and he served numerous other |
|
organizations, including the YMCA, Pine Cove Christian Camps, the |
|
Civitan Club, and United Way; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and |
|
support of his wife, Jacqueline, and their children, Randall, |
|
Laura, and Caryn; and |
|
WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, a devoted family man, and an |
|
admired business leader, Paul Glaske helped shape the destiny of |
|
LeTourneau University while setting an example of faith and |
|
selfless dedication that will continue to inspire its students in |
|
the years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Paul Edward Glaske and |
|
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Jacqueline Glaske; to his children, Randall Glaske and his |
|
wife, Laurie, Laura Taff, and Caryn Moore and her husband, Barry; to |
|
his sister, Leona Brakla; to his nine grandchildren and three |
|
great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Paul Edward |
|
Glaske. |
