R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Lawrence Olsen is retiring as executive vice
  president of the Texas Good Roads and Transportation Association on
  July 31, 2015, drawing to a close a notable career in the service of
  the Texas highway industry that has spanned three and a half
  decades; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Austin, Mr. Olsen earned a bachelor's
  degree in journalism and a master's degree in history from
  Southwest Texas State University; early in his career, he worked as
  a legislative assistant to U.S. Representative J. J. Pickle in
  Washington, D.C.; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Olsen went on to serve for nine years as public
  affairs director for the Heavy Highway Branch of the Associated
  General Contractors of Texas, and since 1989, he has been the
  executive vice president of the Texas Good Roads and Transportation
  Association, responsible for the day-to-day operations of this
  1,900-member nonprofit association in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, During his exemplary 26-year tenure with Texas Good
  Roads, Mr. Olsen has helped TGR maintain its close working
  relationships with the Texas Department of Transportation, the
  Texas Legislature, and chambers of commerce and civic leaders
  across the state; he has served as chair of the Short Course Awards
  Selection Committee for the scholarship program of the Texas
  Transportation Forum, and he has been an advisor to the Texas Road
  Hands Awards effort; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Olsen has enjoyed the
  love and support of his wife and his two sons; he is a member of
  Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church; and
         WHEREAS, Lawrence Olsen's dedication, professionalism, and
  commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the work of the
  Texas Good Roads and Transportation Association and earned him the
  respect and admiration of his colleagues, and he may indeed reflect
  with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting
  chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Lawrence Olsen on his retirement as
  executive vice president of the Texas Good Roads and Transportation
  Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Olsen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
