R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The African American Museum of Dallas is hosting its
  40th Anniversary Celebration Gala and Auction on June 6, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Organized in 1974, the African American Museum is
  the only institution in the Southwest dedicated to the collection,
  preservation, and display of cultural and historical materials and
  artwork that represent the African American experience, and it has
  one of the largest African American folk art collections in the
  United States; located in Fair Park, the museum maintains strong
  ties with the community, and it holds as its mission the
  presentation of meaningful experiences for children and adults who
  might not ordinarily visit a museum; to date, the museum has
  conducted a wide range of outreach programs that have benefited
  more than 50,000 disadvantaged youth in the area; and
         WHEREAS, Proceeds from the much-anticipated anniversary gala
  will support the museum's day-to-day operations, special
  exhibitions, and educational offerings, including its
  eight-week-long Science and Art Summer Camp for youth; and
         WHEREAS, An indispensable community resource, the African
  American Museum of Dallas has informed and enlightened residents
  and visitors alike about African American culture and history, and
  the exceptional efforts of its staff and patrons are indeed to be
  commended; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the African American Museum of Dallas on
  the occasion of its 40th Anniversary Celebration Gala and Auction
  and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a
  meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the museum as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
