R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The African American Museum of Dallas is hosting its |
|
|
40th Anniversary Celebration Gala and Auction on June 6, 2015; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Organized in 1974, the African American Museum is |
|
|
the only institution in the Southwest dedicated to the collection, |
|
|
preservation, and display of cultural and historical materials and |
|
|
artwork that represent the African American experience, and it has |
|
|
one of the largest African American folk art collections in the |
|
|
United States; located in Fair Park, the museum maintains strong |
|
|
ties with the community, and it holds as its mission the |
|
|
presentation of meaningful experiences for children and adults who |
|
|
might not ordinarily visit a museum; to date, the museum has |
|
|
conducted a wide range of outreach programs that have benefited |
|
|
more than 50,000 disadvantaged youth in the area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Proceeds from the much-anticipated anniversary gala |
|
|
will support the museum's day-to-day operations, special |
|
|
exhibitions, and educational offerings, including its |
|
|
eight-week-long Science and Art Summer Camp for youth; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An indispensable community resource, the African |
|
|
American Museum of Dallas has informed and enlightened residents |
|
|
and visitors alike about African American culture and history, and |
|
|
the exceptional efforts of its staff and patrons are indeed to be |
|
|
commended; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor the African American Museum of Dallas on |
|
|
the occasion of its 40th Anniversary Celebration Gala and Auction |
|
|
and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a |
|
|
meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the museum as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
