R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, June 2016 has been designated National Dairy Month, |
|
|
and this observance provides a welcome opportunity to celebrate the |
|
|
noteworthy efforts of dairy farmers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established as National Milk Month in 1937, the |
|
|
event was originally intended to encourage milk consumption in an |
|
|
effort to stabilize demand during a production surplus; it evolved |
|
|
into National Dairy Month to recognize annually the important role |
|
|
the industry plays in the agricultural sector of the United States |
|
|
economy and in providing a valuable source of nutrition to the |
|
|
American public; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Lone Star State is home to hundreds of dairies |
|
|
and hundreds of thousands of cows, with the largest number of dairy |
|
|
cows concentrated in the Panhandle; together, milk production and |
|
|
processing add billions of dollars to the Texas economy, and the |
|
|
industry continues to grow and generate employment; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dairy products are a nutrient-rich staple of the |
|
|
American diet, and they represent one of the most important |
|
|
commodities in the agricultural sector, which is so crucial to the |
|
|
continued vibrancy of the Texas economy; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate National Dairy Month 2016 and extend |
|
|
to dairy farmers across the state sincere appreciation for their |
|
|
invaluable work. |
