R E S O L U T I O N

|
WHEREAS, During the 84th Legislative Session, Neo Baepi has |
|
|
ably served in the office of State Representative Helen Giddings |
|
|
through the Texas Legislative Internship Program; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by Senator Rodney Ellis, TLIP was |
|
|
established in 1990 and is administered by the Mickey Leland Center |
|
|
on World Hunger and Peace at Texas Southern University; the program |
|
|
provides a unique opportunity for outstanding young men and women |
|
|
to serve as interns in the Texas Legislature, in state agencies, and |
|
|
in local government offices; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since joining the staff of Representative Giddings, |
|
|
Ms. Baepi has provided vital assistance in a wide range of tasks; in |
|
|
addition to learning more about the legislative process and the |
|
|
issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State, she has gained |
|
|
valuable experience in the field of public service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A visiting student from Cape Town, South Africa, |
|
|
Ms. Baepi graduated from Rhodes University with a bachelor's degree |
|
|
in journalism and media studies and a minor in political and |
|
|
international studies, and she has also served as a visiting |
|
|
scholar in the history department at Rice University; she has |
|
|
developed a strong interest in political and social issues, |
|
|
particularly in regard to gender and race relations, and she hopes |
|
|
to one day become an advocate for gender, LGBTQ, and other human |
|
|
rights concerns in South Africa; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Neo Baepi has performed her duties as a legislative |
|
|
intern with skill and dedication, and she is indeed deserving of |
|
|
special recognition for her many achievements; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend Neo Baepi for her service in the office |
|
|
of State Representative Helen Giddings as a participant in the |
|
|
Texas Legislative Internship Program and extend to her sincere best |
|
|
wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Baepi as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
