R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Dumas Noon Lions Club, the 10th largest Lions
  Club in the United States, is sponsoring the Dogie Days festival
  from June 8 to 11, 2016, continuing an annual event that has
  supported many notable endeavors in the area for decades; and
         WHEREAS, Taking its name from the cowboys' term for the
  calves they herded on cattle drives, Dogie Days was first held in
  1946, with the Dumas Noon Lions Club dedicating the proceeds to the
  Llano Estacado Boy Scout Council and the Camp Don Harrington Scout
  Ranch; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Dogie Days has remained a popular
  attraction, and 2016 marks the event's 70th anniversary; it has
  featured enormous town barbecues, serving 7600 pounds of meat to
  over 5000 people, and also includes a carnival midway, a parade, and
  a raffle for the grand prize of a new vehicle; and
         WHEREAS, Dogie Days events raise tens of thousands of dollars
  each year, with the funds used to buy eyeglasses for those in need
  and also to support a range of other worthwhile charitable causes,
  including Leader Dogs for the Blind, the Texas Lions Camp, and Dumas
  Meals on Wheels; and
         WHEREAS, The celebration is part of the beneficial work that
  has been carried out by the Dumas Noon Lions Club since it was first
  chartered in 1930; today, the club's members continue to be
  dedicated to the motto "We Serve," and their work has a positive and
  far-reaching influence on local citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Dogie Days is a fun and much-anticipated
  get-together that reflects the strong community spirit of Dumas,
  and it is sure to be enjoyed by all who attend; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 2016 Dogie Days festival and
  extend to the organizers and participants sincere best wishes for a
  memorable and rewarding occasion; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Dumas Noon Lions Club as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
