R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Family, friends, and members of the Katy community
  were greatly saddened by the passing of Katy city council member
  William Mack Lawton III on May 28, 2015, at the age of 65; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Katy, Bill Lawton was born to
  William Mack Lawton Jr. and Nellie Rhea Wood Lawton on July 30,
  1949, in Uvalde; he graduated from Uvalde High School in 1967 and
  subsequently attended Southwest Texas Junior College ("Kicker
  Tech") in Uvalde; and
         WHEREAS, On January 16, 1970, Bill Lawton married the love of
  his life, Margaret Rose Winans; he moved his family to the Houston
  area in 1975 and to Katy in 1978; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his nearly four decades in Katy,
  Mr. Lawton was deeply engaged in the life of the community; an
  active member of First United Methodist Church for 36 years, he held
  numerous leadership positions, serving on building committees,
  sponsoring youth mission trips, and helping and encouraging
  confirmands as a Friend in Faith; his myriad efforts in behalf of
  the congregation led to his being awarded the Lifetime Methodist
  Men's Award in 2015; he was also supportive of area students,
  serving as president of the booster organization for the band at
  Katy High School and as a judge for the FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo
  Parade; and
         WHEREAS, In 2010, Mr. Lawton retired as general manager of
  Mac Haik Chevrolet, where he had enjoyed a career that spanned 29
  years; with additional time to devote to the Katy ISD, he became a
  bus driver for special education students in the district; and
         WHEREAS, Bill Lawton also gave generously of his time to the
  city he loved as a member of the Katy Convention & Tourism Bureau
  and the City Planning & Zoning Commission; widely admired for his
  civic leadership, he was elected to the city council in 2011, and he
  was so popular that he ran unopposed in 2013 and 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Bill Lawton was proud to be a leader in the Katy
  community, where he served as an inspiration to countless residents
  and where he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to resonate
  for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bill Lawton and
  extend sincere condolences to all those who mourn his passing; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William
  Mack "Bill" Lawton.
