A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to requiring the Texas Department of Transportation to |
|
|
increase the use of the design-build method for roadway projects. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 223.001, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 223.001. CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS [REQUIRING COMPETITIVE
|
|
|
BIDS]. (a) Subject to Subsection (b), the [The] department shall |
|
|
submit for competitive bids each contract for: |
|
|
(1) the improvement of a highway that is part of the |
|
|
state highway system; or |
|
|
(2) materials to be used in the construction or |
|
|
maintenance of that highway. |
|
|
(b) The commission shall designate in each fiscal year at |
|
|
least 10 specific highway projects to be completed using the |
|
|
design-build method under Subchapter F. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 223.001, Transportation Code, as amended |
|
|
by this Act, applies only to a fiscal year beginning on or after the |
|
|
effective date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
