A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to a vacancy in the office of a member of the legislature
  on final conviction of a felony.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Chapter 301, Government Code, is amended by
  adding Subchapter Z to read as follows:
  SUBCHAPTER Z.  MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS
         Sec. 301.901.  VACANCY ON FINAL FELONY CONVICTION OF MEMBER
  OF LEGISLATURE. A member of the legislature convicted of a felony
  vacates the member's office on the date the conviction becomes
  final.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
