A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the establishment of an innovative workforce training |
|
center in the Rio Grande Valley. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 130, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 130.094 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 130.094. INNOVATIVE WORKFORCE TRAINING CENTER. (a) In |
|
this section, "training center" means the Innovative Workforce |
|
Training Center established under this section. |
|
(b) The Innovative Workforce Training Center is established |
|
to develop and provide initial and continuing education and |
|
training for workers in the Rio Grande Valley, including education |
|
and training in the following specific areas: |
|
(1) welding; |
|
(2) civil, commercial, residential, and industrial |
|
construction; |
|
(3) installing electrical systems; |
|
(4) installing heating, ventilation, and |
|
air-conditioning systems; and |
|
(5) mechatronics. |
|
(c) Texas Southmost College shall administer the training |
|
center. The headquarters of the training center are located at |
|
Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. The training center may |
|
use property and facilities owned or leased by Texas Southmost |
|
College. |
|
(d) The training center may solicit and accept gifts and |
|
grants from any public or private source for purposes of this |
|
section. The legislature may appropriate money for purposes of |
|
this section. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
