JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment providing for retention |
|
elections for police chiefs of certain municipalities. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article V, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
adding Section 22 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 22. A person appointed as the police chief of a |
|
municipality shall be subject to nonpartisan elections to determine |
|
whether the person shall retain the office at times prescribed by |
|
the legislature. The duties, qualifications, perquisites, and |
|
terms of the office may be prescribed by the legislature. This |
|
section applies only to a municipality having a population of more |
|
than 5,000. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing for |
|
retention elections for police chiefs of certain municipalities." |
