SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Honorable Ray Holbrook, who is the recipient of a
  Texas A&M University 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award; and
         WHEREAS, Well known for his many contributions to his
  community and state, Ray Holbrook served the citizens of
  Galveston County with distinction for nearly three decades as a
  county judge; he began his career by serving as a chemical
  engineer with the Monsanto Company, and after earning a law
  degree from the University of Houston, he served as a patent
  attorney; he also served for six years as a member of the State
  Board of Education; and
         WHEREAS, While a student at Texas A&M University, he was a
  member of the Corps of Cadets and the Fighting Aggie Band; a
  standout athlete, he was a four-year letterman in track and set a
  Southwest Conference record in the 440-yard dash; in addition, he
  was a member of the 1948 national championship mile relay team; and
         WHEREAS, He was inducted into the university's Athletic
  Hall of Fame in 1983, and on October 10, 2014, he was named the
  recipient of the Texas A&M Distinguished Alumni Award, the
  highest honor bestowed by the Association of Former Students of
  Texas A&M University; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Holbrook has had a profound impact on the
  growth and prosperity of Galveston County and our state, and it
  is truly fitting that he receive special recognition for his many
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Ray Holbrook on his exceptional
  contributions to his community and state and extend
  congratulations to him on receiving a Texas A&M University 2014
  Distinguished Alumni Award; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
