SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 44

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, which has been awarded a three-year, $2.88 million grant from the United Health Foundation; and

WHEREAS, This generous endowment will help fund the Colonia Integrated Care Program: Valley Interprofessional Development and Services; it will also support the establishment of the Center for Colonia Integrated Care, which will coordinate services in two colonias through the use of mobile health clinics and telehealth programs; and

WHEREAS, The grant will be administered by The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and will be implemented in coordination with the partner organizations of the South Texas Integrated Team Collaborative for Health; and

WHEREAS, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 and will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015; the school of medicine will open in 2016; the grant will provide critical resources that will help to improve access to and delivery of health care throughout South Texas; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend all those associated with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine on their commitment to expanding health care services in South Texas and extend to them best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this exemplary institution as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
