Mark Daniel Johnson |
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Mark Daniel Johnson, |
|
who died January 20, 2015, at the age of 47; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mark Johnson was born on June 16, 1967, in |
|
Seattle, Washington, to Sue and Dan Johnson; he moved with his |
|
family to Waco at an early age, and he graduated from Richfield |
|
High School; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from The |
|
University of Texas at Austin and a master's degree from Babson |
|
College in Boston; and |
|
WHEREAS, His beloved wife, Jocelyn Duncan Johnson, his |
|
daughter, Sophie Mason Johnson, and his stepdaughter, Mary |
|
Elizabeth Potts, were a source of much pride and joy to him; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was a dedicated entrepreneur whose |
|
innovative ideas and efforts had a positive impact on the growing |
|
field of education technology; he was a cofounder of Highwired, a |
|
pioneering online social network for high schools, and he was a |
|
founder of the National Transcript Center; he served as chief |
|
operating officer of ESP Solutions Group and as a vice president |
|
and general manager with Pearson; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was a devout Christian who practiced |
|
his faith in his daily life, and he was active with the Helping |
|
Hand Home for Children in Austin; he was an avid outdoorsman who |
|
introduced his children to the joys of hunting and fishing, and |
|
he loved traveling; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of strength, generosity, and compassion, he |
|
gave unselfishly to others, and his courage in the face of his |
|
illness and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest |
|
will not be forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted son, brother, husband, and |
|
father, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished |
|
forever by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Mark Daniel Johnson; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Mark Daniel Johnson. |
