  W. S. Peters Colony and the Charles Mercer Colony, settlers
arrived in the present-day Rowlett area in the 1840s; and
WHEREAS, The first post office opened in 1880, and the

the area; by the turn of the century, Rowlett was a prosperous
farming community with numerous stores and services, and
citizens voted in 1952 to incorporate; and

residents; with more than 30 miles of shoreline, it is one of the most
scenic places to live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex; its

and its proximity to the amenities of city life make it an
exceptional place in which to live, work, and raise a family; and
WHEREAS, The people of Rowlett have made many outstanding
contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state, and it is
truly fitting that the city be recognized; now, therefore, be it
