SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 168
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize February 24, 2015, as Texas Grammy Music Day at the |
|
Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texas' unique musical heritage has enriched the |
|
state, the nation, and the world; the birthplace of distinctive |
|
musical styles such as Texas Country and Tejano, Texas has a rich |
|
history of producing culturally significant artists and |
|
musicians from every musical genre; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Recording Academy, the organization responsible |
|
for the Grammy Awards, established a Texas chapter to serve the |
|
Texas music community in 1998; artists and music professionals |
|
from Texas were nominated for 35 awards and won 13 awards at the |
|
57th Annual Grammy Awards; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Music Office was created by the Texas |
|
Legislature to promote and support the state's music industry; |
|
live music festivals in Texas generate hundreds of millions of |
|
dollars annually in economic activity for the state, and nearly |
|
150,000 jobs in the state are estimated to be tied to the music |
|
industry; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the music industry and the |
|
important role it plays in the lives of Texans and proclaim |
|
February 24, 2015, Texas Grammy Music Day at the Capitol; and, be |
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
honor of the music industry in Texas and as an expression of |
|
esteem from the Texas Senate. |
