SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 170

Lawrence Dean Cobb |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Lawrence Dean Cobb, who died January 31, |
|
2015, at the age of 78; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dean Cobb was born on May 16, 1936, in Marlin, to |
|
Lawrence Morgan Cobb and Ruth Day Bladen; he attended The |
|
University of Texas at Austin on a track scholarship and |
|
graduated in 1958; he went on to earn a degree from Baylor Law |
|
School; and |
|
WHEREAS, He began his legal career in Dumas as a partner in |
|
the firm of Lovell, Lyle and Cobb; he served for a time as Moore |
|
County Attorney before his election to the Texas House of |
|
Representatives, where he served with distinction for three |
|
terms; and |
|
WHEREAS, After his service in the Texas Legislature, he |
|
relocated to Austin and became a resident partner with Bracewell |
|
and Patterson; he later entered private practice and advocated |
|
for numerous clients' interests before the Texas Legislature; and |
|
WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Army and the Texas |
|
Army National Guard, he was active in a number of professional |
|
and philanthropic organizations, including the Texas Union |
|
Advisory Council; he was a life member of the Grand Lodge of |
|
Texas, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a man of courage, strength, and compassion |
|
who gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his generous |
|
spirit, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest |
|
will not be forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
|
and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|
his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Lawrence Dean Cobb; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Dean Cobb. |
