SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 184
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  welcome the visiting delegation from Red River County on the
  occasion of Red River County Day at the State Capitol; and
 
         WHEREAS, Red River County was formally established in
  December of 1837 by President Sam Houston during the First
  Congress of the Republic of Texas; archeological evidence
  indicates that parts of the county were occupied by Native
  Americans as early as 1500 B. C., and many creeks in the area bear
  the names of tribes that immigrated to the area in the early
  1800s; and
 
         WHEREAS, Red River County is fortunate to have some of the
  most fertile soil in the state and occupies 1,054 square miles
  of East Texas timberlands; the economy thrives on such major
  agricultural products as soybean and wheat and on the cattle
  industry; Clarksville, the county seat, is home to Magnolia
  Brush Manufacturers, which distributes industrial brushes
  worldwide; and
 
         WHEREAS, Clarksville has been named an official Texas Main
  Street City, a National Main Street City, and a Preserve American
  community; residents throughout the county take pride in their
  heritage and in the county's many assets and contributions to our
  state; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  84th Legislature, hereby join the Red River County delegation in
  celebrating Red River County Day at the State Capitol and
  extend to all best wishes for a memorable visit to Austin; and,
  be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
