William Riley Boyd Jr. |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of William Riley Boyd Jr., who died June 2, |
|
2013, at the age of 96; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bill Boyd was born on February 24, 1917, in Houston, |
|
Mississippi; he graduated from Houston High School in 1934; and |
|
WHEREAS, In May of 1937, he was offered an apprenticeship |
|
in road and highway construction by the Corsicana-based |
|
contracting firm of E. W. Hable and Sons, and five years later, |
|
he married the love of his life, Tim Barton; in 1945, he organized |
|
W. R. Boyd, Incorporated, and his company soon became a prime |
|
contractor for the Texas Highway Department; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Boyd was a distinguished leader in his field, and |
|
in 1969, he was elected president of the Texas Highway-Heavy Branch |
|
of the Associated General Contractors; at the time, the branch was |
|
responsible for 95 percent of the highway construction in Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, He served on numerous state committees, was a |
|
highly respected community leader, and was president of both the |
|
Texas Good Roads Transportation Association and the Texas |
|
Asphalt Paving Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bill Boyd was a loving husband, father, and |
|
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished |
|
by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of William Riley Boyd Jr.; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of William Riley Boyd Jr. |
