SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 219
         WHEREAS, Schreiner University, a private liberal arts
  university in Kerrville, Texas, and the McWhiney History
  Education Group of Buffalo Gap, Texas, have combined forces to
  promote the study of all things relating to Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, Schreiner University has developed a Texas
  Studies minor which will be offered through online distance
  learning to students of all institutions of higher learning
  within the State of Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Texas Studies program offered by Schreiner
  University will incorporate an interdisciplinary approach,
  involving one required lower-division introductory course in
  Texas studies and upper-division classes in Texas history,
  political institutions, economic and corporate development,
  visual arts, natural sciences, ethnic studies, and culture,
  literature, and music; and
 
         WHEREAS, The study of Texas will strengthen the knowledge
  base of all students enrolled in Schreiner University's Texas
  Studies program and better prepare students to be productive
  citizens of 21st-century Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, Schreiner University is celebrating the
  "kick-off" of its Texas Studies program in the spring semester of
  2015 with a campus-wide celebration on Texas Independence Day,
  March 2, 2015; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby recognize the week of March 1 through 7,
  2015, as Texas Studies Week within Texas and commend Schreiner
  University in Kerrville and the McWhiney History Education Group
  for offering Texas Studies to the people of Texas.
