SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 224
WHEREAS, Since its inception, Volunteer McKinney has
inspired and mobilized countless Texans to take action in behalf
  of the community; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Volunteer McKinney was formed by a group
of dedicated area leaders to help match citizens with local
volunteer opportunities, while in turn providing nonprofit and

needs; the center now recruits more than 7,800 volunteers each
year, with their collective efforts benefiting upwards of 90
agencies, shelters, charities, and organizations; and
WHEREAS, Representatives from Volunteer McKinney deliver
presentations at churches, schools, and other places to
encourage people to get involved, work with local businesses to
create volunteer programs for their employees, and offer
valuable educational support to nonprofits; the organization is
also a host of citywide events like McKinney Make a Difference
Day and the Texas Trash-Off that engage hundreds of volunteers,
and it annually pays tribute to individuals who have performed
notable acts of service at the Spirit of McKinney awards
  ceremony; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding resource is guided by the
leadership of its board of directors, which includes president
Patrick J. Cloutier, vice president Michael Dodson, treasurer

  before his passing; and
WHEREAS, For the past 17 years, Volunteer McKinney and
those who have answered its pledge have supported programs that
have made a meaningful difference in the lives of their fellow

  therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
