SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 235
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
join San Antonio's Vietnamese American community and Texans |
|
|
across the state in celebrating the Vietnamese New Year; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Vietnamese New Year, known in Vietnamese as |
|
|
Tet, is a time for family and friends to come together to reflect |
|
|
on the past and to celebrate new beginnings; each year in the |
|
|
Vietnamese calendar is represented by one of 12 animals or |
|
|
mythical creatures, and 2015 is the Year of the Goat; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Like other immigrant groups before them, |
|
|
Vietnamese people came to this country in search of freedom and |
|
|
opportunity, and also like other immigrant groups, they have |
|
|
contributed immeasurably to the fabric of life in communities |
|
|
across the nation; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The celebration of the Vietnamese New Year offers |
|
|
an opportunity for Texans from all walks of life to learn about |
|
|
the unique cultural heritage of the Vietnamese American |
|
|
community in our state; now, therefore, be it |
| |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Vietnamese Americans on their many |
|
|
contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state and |
|
|
extend to them best wishes for a memorable Vietnamese New Year |
|
|
celebration; and, be it further |

|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special occasion. |
