SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 263
         WHEREAS, Social workers strive to address the basic needs
  of all people, especially the most vulnerable, and to assure
  their emotional and psychological well-being; and
         WHEREAS, Americans from all walks of life benefit from the
  wide-ranging services provided by social workers, who endeavor to
  ensure that children grow up in safe and nurturing households, that
  older adults are treated with care and dignity, that veterans receive
  the support they need to successfully reintegrate into civilian
  communities, and that individuals who are struggling instead learn
  to thrive; social workers help clients to secure access to crucial
  health care and mental health services, and in clinical settings they
  help patients deal with issues that accompany serious illness,
  substance abuse, and domestic conflict; and
         WHEREAS, The history of the social work profession is
  closely entwined with the struggle for social justice in America;
  social workers have championed the promise of shared prosperity
  and opportunity for everyone and have furthered the equality and
  acceptance of marginalized groups and individuals through their
  collective actions; recognizing the impact of discrimination,
  social workers stand up for the rights of others and support the
  presence of diversity in every community; and
         WHEREAS, Members of the social work profession are involved in
  the formulation of policy that affects the lives of the poor and other
  underprivileged populations, and they perform research that contributes
  to the existing body of knowledge about the human condition; and
         WHEREAS, More than 650,000 Americans hold degrees in
  social work, an area of study that requires an understanding of
  human development and behavior and how those are influenced by
  social, cultural, and economic institutions; the men and women
  who choose this field pursue a truly noble calling, and their
  far-reaching achievements, which have uplifted and empowered
  countless Americans, are deserving of our utmost respect; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby recognize March 2015 as Professional Social Work
  Month in Texas and extend to the members of the Texas Chapter of the
  National Association of Social Workers and social workers throughout
  the Lone Star State sincere appreciation for their efforts.
