SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 267
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health on the occasion |
|
|
of the foundation's 75th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health was |
|
|
established at The University of Texas at Austin in 1940 by the |
|
|
children of former Texas Governor James S. Hogg; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In the early years of the foundation's history, |
|
|
its staff visited communities across the state to share emerging |
|
|
ideas about mental health with professional and civic groups; as |
|
|
World War II developed, staff members expanded their focus to |
|
|
include the needs of military members and their families; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, the foundation's mission |
|
|
expanded to include grant-giving, research, and policy activity, |
|
|
with a particular emphasis on mental health services for children |
|
|
and on the creation of a modern mental health infrastructure; |
|
|
initiatives have included the establishment of the Sutherland |
|
|
Chair in Mental Health and Social Policy at The University of |
|
|
Texas School of Social Work and the launching of the School of the |
|
|
Future project; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For 75 years, the Hogg Foundation for Mental |
|
|
Health has played a vital role in serving the mental health needs |
|
|
of our state; the foundation is truly deserving of recognition |
|
|
for the profound impact it has had on the lives of Texans; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the Hogg Foundation for Mental |
|
|
Health on its valuable contributions to mental health care in |
|
|
Texas and extend best wishes to its executives and staff on the |
|
|
occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this |
|
|
exemplary foundation as an expression of esteem from the Texas |
|
|
Senate. |
