SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 268
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Communities in Schools of Laredo, which is celebrating
  25 years of service to area students; and
         WHEREAS, Communities in Schools is the nation's leading
  dropout prevention organization, and the Laredo-based program is
  committed to providing an enriching and supportive environment
  for students and helping prepare them for the future; and
         WHEREAS, Communities in Schools of Laredo was organized in
  1990 and began serving local students at two high schools in
  1991; in the ensuing years, the program has expanded to serve
  three counties and five school districts; and
         WHEREAS, Communities in Schools of Laredo follows the
  premise that each child needs one-on-one adult mentorship, a safe
  learning environment, a healthy start and a healthy future,
  instruction of a marketable skill, and a chance to give back to
  their community; and
         WHEREAS, Ensuring the education of all young people in
  Texas is critical to maintaining a competitive edge in the
  workforce, and the dedicated professionals of Communities in
  Schools of Laredo have helped broaden the horizons for many
  at-risk students; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend the board of directors,
  administrators, and staff of Communities in Schools of Laredo for
  their outstanding service to the young citizens of Texas and
  extend to all congratulations as they celebrate 25 years of
  success in the community; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this
  organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
