SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 276
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join Texans across the state in celebrating April 8, 2015, as
  Texas Pharmacy Day at the Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, The practice of pharmacy in Texas traces its roots
  to the Spanish missionaries, explorers, and physicians who came
  to the region in the 17th century; and
         WHEREAS, The first permanent organization of Texas
  pharmacists, the Texas Pharmaceutical Association, was founded
  in Dallas in 1879; its mission was to organize pharmacists on a
  professional basis, establish legal guidelines for the profession,
  and improve educational standards for pharmacists; and
         WHEREAS, A school of pharmacy was established at The
  University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1893; it was
  moved to the Austin campus and became the College of Pharmacy in
  1927; the first law regulating the practice of pharmacy was
  passed in 1889, and the current Texas Pharmacy Law was enacted in
  1929; and
         WHEREAS, Today, pharmacy in Texas has become a major
  profession with invaluable influence on the field of health care;
  pharmacists' opinions are sought to help make decisions in every
  aspect of medicine; pharmacists are truly deserving of special
  recognition for the profound impact they have on the health
  science and on the health care of our state's citizens; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend the pharmacists of Texas on their
  commitment to quality health care and extend to them best wishes
  for a productive and rewarding Texas Pharmacy Day at the Capitol;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
