SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 306
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Joel Mark Selber
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Joel Mark Selber, who died February 14,
  2015, at the age of 82; and
 
         WHEREAS, Joel Selber was born on February 19, 1932, in
  Houston, to Joseph and Gertrude Selber; after attending Lamar
  High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and
  served during the Korean War; he rose to the rank of sergeant and
  served in the Strategic Air Command under the leadership of
  General Curtis LeMay; and
 
         WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Selber attended
  the University of Houston, where he was a founding member of the Tau
  Kappa Epsilon fraternity and played on the football team; he earned
  his degree from Midwestern University; and
 
         WHEREAS, He worked for a time in Houston before moving to
  Austin in 1964 and beginning a 16-year career with Tracor,
  Incorporated; during his tenure with the company, he played an
  important role in the development of numerous military defense
  and commercial product lines before joining General Dynamics in
  San Diego, California, and leading the production of the Tomahawk
  cruise missile; and
 
         WHEREAS, He later returned to his native Texas and
  established a number of successful companies that provided
  excellent product development and manufacturing services; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Selber was an avid outdoorsman and an early
  member of the Austin Yacht Club; in keeping with his lifelong
  dedication to supporting the nation's military, he and his
  beloved wife, Dr. Katherine Chism Selber, established the
  Michael Davis Emergency Scholarship for Student Veterans at
  Texas State University; and
 
         WHEREAS, He was a man of courage, strength, and compassion
  who gave generously to others, and his devotion to his country
  and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
  forgotten; and
 
         WHEREAS, He was devoted to his wife, Katherine, and his
  children, Stephanie, Gregory, and William, and he leaves behind
  memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
  countless friends; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Joel Mark Selber; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Joel Mark Selber.
