SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 325
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  George Houston Parker
 
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
  memories of George Houston Parker of Runaway Bay, who passed away
  on August 1, 2014, at the age of 77; and
         WHEREAS, George Parker was born on September 25, 1936, in
  Oklahoma City, to Merl and Stella Parker; a member of the Texas
  National Guard during high school, Mr. Parker served in the
  United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve from 1956 to 1961;
  he graduated from Texas Tech University and went on to enjoy a
  distinguished 34-year career with IBM in California before his
  retirement in 1995; and
         WHEREAS, Following the passing of his second wife,
  Mr. Parker reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Bettye
  Ferguson; the couple married in 2001, and two years later they
  moved to the Lone Star State to make their home in Runaway Bay;
  Mr. Parker was the proud father of two daughters, Tammy and
  Melanie, and he later became a devoted stepfather to his stepson,
  Mike, and stepdaughter, Karen; over the years, he knew the joy of
  welcoming 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren into his
  cherished family; and
         WHEREAS, Active in a number of worthwhile organizations
  and causes, this esteemed gentleman volunteered extensively with
  the Republican Party in both California and Texas and also
  assisted the Republican Women of Wise County; he and his wife
  Bettye traveled widely, and he also enjoyed golfing and fishing; and
         WHEREAS, George Parker lived a life that was rich in the
  intangibles that matter most, and he is deeply missed by all who
  were blessed to share in his love and affection; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of George Houston
  Parker and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
  to his wife, Bettye Parker; to his daughter, Melanie Parker; to
  his stepson, Mike Ferguson; to his stepdaughter, Karen Shadden;
  to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
  so in memory of George Houston Parker.
