SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 334
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Wayne Bert Sorensen
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Colonel Wayne Bert Sorensen, United
  States Army, Retired, who died February 18, 2015, at the age of
  72; and
 
         WHEREAS, Wayne Sorensen was born on September 15, 1942, in
  Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Violet and Bert Sorensen; he earned a
  degree in business administration from the University of
  Minnesota; and
 
         WHEREAS, He served the nation with distinction for more
  than two decades as a member of the United States Army; he
  enlisted as a Medical Service Corps officer, and his overseas
  tours of duty included Vietnam, Germany, and Korea; and
 
         WHEREAS, During his tenure in the military, he earned a
  master's degree in health care administration from Baylor
  University and a doctorate from the University of Iowa; he rose
  to the rank of colonel, and his last assignment in the army was as
  executive officer to the chief of Clinical Services, 7th Medical
  Command, Heidelberg, Germany; and
 
         WHEREAS, After his retirement in 1992, he began a second
  career as a consultant and university professor; he worked for a
  number of health care organizations and programs and served as a
  member of the Health Care Administration faculty at Texas State
  University; he served as department chair and made numerous
  overseas trips representing the university on assistance visits
  to several eastern European countries; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. Sorensen was recruited in 2010 to serve as the
  first director of Health Care Administration for Concordia
  University in Austin; through the years, he was active in a
  number of professional and philanthropic organizations, most
  notably the Down Home Ranch in Elgin; and
 
         WHEREAS, He was a man of courage, strength, and compassion
  who gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to
  share in his life; and
 
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
  forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Colonel Wayne Bert Sorensen; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Wayne Bert Sorensen.
