SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 351

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to honor famed barbecue master Louis McMillan and to recognize McMillan's Bar-B-Q in Fannin as a cultural gem of the Lone Star State; and

WHEREAS, Before beginning his legendary career, Louis McMillan served with distinction in the United States Army in Vietnam, and he attended Prairie View A&M University and graduated in 1967; and

WHEREAS, He opened McMillan's Bar-B-Q in 1974 and quickly earned a reputation for culinary excellence; his tender wares were a favorite of the Houston Oilers, and he continues to cater to businesses and notable events throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, Since its establishment, McMillan's Bar-B-Q has been ranked three times as one of the Top 50 barbecue establishments in the world by Texas Monthly; in 2008, Mr. McMillan was invited by the Smithsonian to showcase his barbecue at the annual Folk Festival in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, A dedicated family man, he has shared 47 years of marriage with Shirley McMillan, and they cherish time spent with their daughters, Teri and Sondra, and their granddaughter, Aynna; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McMillan is a beloved and respected member of the Fannin community; generations of families have frequented his quaint red restaurant, not only for the excellent barbecue, but also for the fellowship and friendly ambience; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby recognize Louis McMillan as a treasured citizen of our state and extend congratulations to him on the longtime success of McMillan's Bar-B-Q in Fannin; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
