SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 457
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Joe G. Rivera, who recently retired as Cameron County
  clerk after 38 years of outstanding service; and
 
         WHEREAS, Joe Rivera was first elected to the position of
  Cameron County clerk in 1974, and he served in that position
  through 1982; four years later, he returned to the clerk's office
  to continue his service to the residents of Cameron County; and
 
         WHEREAS, His numerous responsibilities as clerk included
  directing all primary functions of the office, implementing laws
  passed by the state legislature, and facilitating the transition
  to computerized record keeping; and
 
         WHEREAS, In addition to his professional contributions to
  the county, Mr. Rivera has promoted the success and vitality of
  his community by sharing his time and resources with a number of
  local civic organizations; and
 
         WHEREAS, Joe Rivera has earned the respect and admiration
  of his colleagues and fellow citizens, and he can reflect with
  pride on his significant accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Joe G. Rivera for his many years of
  exceptional service as Cameron County clerk and extend to him
  best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
