SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 487
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Bexar County Junior Livestock Show BBQ Cook-off |
|
|
is taking place on April 24 and 25, 2015, in San Antonio; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sanctioned by the International Barbeque Cookers |
|
|
Association, the cook-off serves as a showcase for Texas-style |
|
|
cuisine as entrants vie to produce the tastiest brisket, pork spare |
|
|
ribs, and chicken, as well as other meats and side dishes; cash |
|
|
prizes are awarded to the top-finishing pit masters, and attendees |
|
|
can also enjoy live music, a car show, auctions, and arts and |
|
|
crafts; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Proceeds from the event benefit the Build a Barn |
|
|
and Scholarship Fund administered by the Bexar County Junior |
|
|
Livestock Show, a nonprofit organization committed to youth |
|
|
development; for more than 50 years, the group's volunteers have |
|
|
promoted education in the agricultural sciences by sponsoring |
|
|
livestock programs, livestock and land judging activities, and |
|
|
projects related to agricultural mechanics and food and |
|
|
nutrition; these dedicated individuals also devote numerous |
|
|
hours to raising scholarship funds to benefit young Texans who |
|
|
have demonstrated outstanding community service and enthusiasm |
|
|
for agricultural studies; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Bexar County Junior Livestock Show is |
|
|
providing participants with opportunities to learn lifelong |
|
|
skills and values, and special recognition is owed to the men and |
|
|
women who have worked tirelessly to ensure its success; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby honor the Bexar County Junior Livestock Show |
|
|
and its annual barbecue cook-off event and commend all those |
|
|
associated with the group for their immeasurable contributions to |
|
|
the community and to the young people of Texas; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard |
|
|
from the Texas Senate. |
