SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 569
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Martha Ellen Bonner Miller
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Martha Ellen Bonner Miller, who died
  March 26, 2015, at the age of 90; and
         WHEREAS, Martha Miller was born on December 16, 1924, in
  San Antonio, to Willa Calhoun and Z. David Bonner; she was
  extremely proud of her family's rich history; she was a direct
  descendent of Nathaniel Bilberry, who served in General George
  Washington's Commander in Chief Life Guard, and she was related
  to United States Vice President John C. Calhoun; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Miller was hired by the Texas Senate in 1966
  to create the Capitol Information and Guide Service; under her
  leadership, it became a highly knowledgeable and professional
  guide service; she later served for 30 years as executive
  director of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel; and
         WHEREAS, She was active in a wide range of civic,
  historical, and philanthropic organizations, including the
  Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the
  Confederacy, the Austin Civil War Roundtable, and the Austin
  Women's Club; she was a docent of the Texas Governor's Mansion and
  served as board president of Zachary Scott Theater; and
         WHEREAS, She was a woman of grace, dignity, and discipline
  who gave generously to others; she was noted for her intellectual
  pursuits and her dry sense of humor, and her enthusiasm for
  living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, She was devoted to her large and loving family and
  extended family members, and she leaves behind memories that will
  long be cherished by those who were privileged to share in her
  life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Martha Ellen Bonner Miller; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Martha Ellen Bonner Miller.
