SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 587

Doris Bass |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Doris Lee Bass, who died April 7, 2015, |
|
at the age of 90; and |
|
WHEREAS, Doris Lee Bass was born January 11, 1925, the |
|
third child of John Dallas and Rosie Lee Bell Goodman; she grew up |
|
in Athens and earned degrees from Phillips Business School and |
|
Southern Bible College; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was married to the late Theophilus Bass for more |
|
than 50 years; they raised three children, Glenda, Jerome, and |
|
Kelvin, and Mrs. Bass was further blessed with seven grandchildren, |
|
11 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; and |
|
WHEREAS, She joined the Church of the Living God at an early |
|
age and served her church as an evangelist throughout her life; she |
|
was a longtime member of Church of the Living God, Christian |
|
Workers for Fellowship, Temple 145, in Dallas, where she was active |
|
in a wide range of ministries; she was especially attentive to the |
|
needs of the church's children, and she sponsored the Junior Choir |
|
and a number of other youth programs; and |
|
WHEREAS, She also sang in the Senior Choir and served as |
|
church secretary, Mission Circle chair, and associate minister; |
|
she was a three-time interim pastor and was named pastor emeritus |
|
of Temple 145; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Bass was a multitalented woman who had |
|
mastered many creative and practical skills; she was noted for |
|
her abilities as a cook and as a seamstress who could make |
|
anything from a men's suit to a choir robe; she also enjoyed a |
|
productive career with Rockwell International; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of deep and abiding faith, she gave |
|
unselfishly to others, and her warmth, wisdom, and wise counsel |
|
will not be forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|
her family and her many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Doris Lee Bass; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Doris Lee Bass. |
