SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 592
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Robert Rodriguez for his extensive contributions to |
|
|
the arts and film industry in Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This revered Texan and pioneer of the independent |
|
|
film revolution has earned widespread acclaim as a major film |
|
|
director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, editor, and |
|
|
musician; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He produced his first feature film, El Mariachi, |
|
|
while a student at The University of Texas at Austin; the |
|
|
groundbreaking film went on to win the coveted Audience Award at |
|
|
the Sundance Film Festival and to become the lowest budget movie |
|
|
ever released by a major studio; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 2000, Mr. Rodriguez founded Troublemaker |
|
|
Studios in Austin; the studio includes a world-renowned visual |
|
|
effects house and an extensive music and publishing division, and |
|
|
it has played a major role in making the state capital a vibrant |
|
|
filmmaking hub; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, he is |
|
|
also the founder and chairman of El Rey Network, the first major |
|
|
Texas-based television network that debuted in 2013; he is also a |
|
|
major advocate for the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive |
|
|
Program, which has contributed more than $1 billion to the state |
|
|
economy; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Robert Rodriguez enjoys a global following as a |
|
|
visionary independent filmmaker, and he has worked diligently to |
|
|
create a thriving film industry in Texas; he is indeed a |
|
|
treasured citizen of the state; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Robert Rodriguez for his outstanding |
|
|
contributions to the arts in Texas and extend to him best wishes |
|
|
in all his future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
