SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 594
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Don Haynes, band director at Lyndon Baines Johnson High |
|
|
School, who is retiring at the close of the 2014-2015 school year |
|
|
after 39 years of exceptional service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Don Haynes joined the staff of Lyndon Baines |
|
|
Johnson High School right after his graduation from The |
|
|
University of Texas; over the last four decades, he has shaped an |
|
|
award-winning band program that has earned widespread |
|
|
recognition for excellence; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mr. Haynes has done more than |
|
|
foster the talents of young musicians; he has fed students when |
|
|
they lacked food, chauffeured them when they lacked |
|
|
transportation, and mentored them when they needed guidance; his |
|
|
students have performed at events throughout the nation and have |
|
|
had opportunities to perform at overseas locations, including |
|
|
the Great Wall of China; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, As a testament to his extraordinary career, he |
|
|
once shared tea with Lady Bird Johnson to prepare for his |
|
|
students' role in the groundbreaking of the Lady Bird Johnson |
|
|
Wildflower Center; in 2007, the Austin Independent School |
|
|
District named the Lyndon Baines Johnson High School theater in |
|
|
his honor; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Don Haynes truly loves his work and remains |
|
|
dedicated to the success of his students; he has long held the |
|
|
respect and admiration of colleagues and young musicians |
|
|
throughout the state, and he leaves behind an exceptional legacy |
|
|
of service; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Don Haynes on his outstanding career |
|
|
as band director at Lyndon Baines Johnson High School and extend |
|
|
to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
