SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 598
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Thelma Franklin on the grand occasion of her 101st
  birthday; and
 
         WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Thelma Franklin is known for
  her generosity of spirit and is a beloved member of her
  community; and
 
         WHEREAS, Thelma Franklin was born on March 14, 1914, in
  Shreveport, Louisiana, to Amanda and Richard Smith; she was the
  13th of 15 children in the family; she has lived through times and
  experienced events that many people only know through history
  books; her life has given her a unique perspective on
  contemporary events, and there is much to be learned from the
  wisdom she has gained through the years; and
 
         WHEREAS, She enjoyed a long and productive career with
  Mercantile Bank of Dallas, and today, she takes great pleasure in
  creating lovely quilts and reading her Bible; a devout Christian
  who practices her faith in her daily life, she is a member of
  Turning Point Ministry Church in Dallas; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Franklin was blessed with seven children,
  and two are still living; she is noted for her warmth and her
  wisdom, and she inspires those around her with her enthusiasm for
  living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to Thelma Franklin on her 101st
  birthday; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as a memento of this occasion.
